Los Angeles March 5, 2008 - BORDER filmmaker Chris Burgard’s edgy, in-your-face documentary portrait of illegal immigration and our porous southern border with Mexico is getting the kind of national viral marketing treatment that has propelled previous doc features like Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 911 and Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me. The film, itself, is currently in national release through a special website – www.bordermovie.com - where BORDER can be purchased directly from the filmmaker. In the first month of national release, he has sold over 5000 copies.
“Every citizen has a stake in this issue and we literally want to reach everyone,” explains filmmaker Burgard, “but we are also doing special grass roots marketing to Hispanics, college students and we really want to get politicians, especially those running for President, to weigh in on the issue.”
For nearly a year, Burgard has been on the road, promoting a film that the New York Times calls a torrid, unflinching look at the illegal immigration crisis afflicting the southern regions of such states as Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. With opinion-maker screenings, media tie-ins, discussion groups, grass roots press campaigns that target radio audiences, Burgard’s film is slowly and strongly building a following all across America.
Burgard premiered the film for the U.S. Congress in Washington D.C. He has also personally shown the film to packed auditoriums in Los Angeles; New York City; Phoenix; San Diego; Providence, Rhode Island, Kansas City; Dearborn, Michigan; Houston, Waukegan, Illinois; Raleigh, North Carolina; Augusta, Georgia and other locales.
Burgard’s intent was to educate the public without taking a partisan approach to an extremely polarizing issue. Consequently, the film is playing to “both sides of the aisles.” Conservatives and liberals have both praised the film as a fair-minded approach to a difficult issue. Because of its approach, the film is considered the perfect topic for talk radio.
Additional screenings are being planned for major university campuses. BORDER, a Little Bonanza Productions and Max Ink Productions co-production, was edited by Todd Sheridan Perry, photographed by Danny Moder, produced by Jennifer A. Champagne and directed by Chris Burgard.

"Maybe it'll take people like Chris Burgard to redeem the American Political Documentary."
